minor pitting on the mating surface on the outermost edges of the flange where there are holes in the mating gasket to block the water passage (this is normal)

MerCruiser 58397A3 Mounting Bracket Assembly (STEEL CONSTRUCTION) This particular bracket to has only 4 holes on it and only fits the early style (1970-1982) MerCruiser / Mercury Outboard pumps (Prestolite with big metal or plastic boxy reservoir)
